Moving out of Mom and Dads

So your parents are going to be a little upset but the umbilical cord must be cut.

Lets get started

So you’ve graduated from high school or you have a GED and you want to be independent.  The first step is to get a job, it doesn’t matter how little it pays just as long as it does pay. Before you can move out and go to college and start being a responsible adult you have to have just a little cash. Most places are going to charge you for:

Application fee
Deposit
First months rent
Last months rent

You will also need other basic necessities like utilities that  need a deposit because of you lack of credit, and don’t forget that you will also need groceries. All of this being said you will also need to start looking at places in your area . Your probably going to find a place you like right off that bat but you need to hold off and remember to just save, save, save first and for most.

One way you can try to reach your money goal is by finding the most expensive place you would want to live in and add up all the expenses for your first month , if it comes to $3000 then try to save $3000 and when you finally have that goal reached, don’t go for the most expensive, go for  somewhere cheaper that way you have a little left over for all the other things your going to need

Another option you have is for cases like apartments where they are frequently available. You should find out what apartment complex you like and see what there rates are and once again just add everything up and see how much its going to run you for your first month but in this case I would save 2 to 3 times the amount that you need because most apartments want to see proof that you can afford up to 3 months, just because once again this is your first place and you have little credit.

Now that you have found somewhere to live lets talk about decorating. Don’t do it. Its so easy to go over board and buy to many things. Only use they things that you have because its nice to have friends over to look at all your cool things like you new flat screen and  nice artwork all over the living room but its not to nice when you cant pay rent the next month. I have some friends that have tried going the route of buying rent to own furniture and things but it comes out to making you pay  about 3 times the amount that you would if you would have just set aside a little bit of money each pay check .

Your best bet is to always be frugal. If you feel like you just have to have some things first look for these things at garage sales,  and flea markets and sometimes Craig list and Ebay. I only say sometimes Craigs list and Ebay just because you never really know what condition things are in because pictures can be deserving . Well happy house/ apartment hunting and good luck
